My name is Mary T. Bevlock. I am a very good, hard-working woman and I am so glad I am an artist. I do a lot of portraits – families, cousins, relatives, celebrities, animals, inspiring stuff. I am clever, brilliant, talkative, and I am a very good listener. I am a friendly and understanding person. I am a responsible person.

Making art is like a warm feeling, lively. I choose different colors that I like the most and I like to blend them. I get the right tools for painting. I really love making art because it is inspiring for me, when I do something I just do it. I listen to my music and concentrate on my work with no interruptions, and I feel joyful.

I like drawing a person the best, I like getting the right shapes – the head, the body, the lips – and I do a lot of colors for the background.

The people that I draw are people that inspire me, their characters, and I have to like them so much. I want to bring my artwork to galleries, especially in New York and California. In LA, California, where everyone can see them, especially Maurice Benard. Make sure that Maurice Benard sees my paintings.

I feel inspired by my sister, because she is very talented. Also Sally Jeffries, because we have so much fun going out somewhere or just walking all the time. My favorite artist is Van Gogh, his paintings and shapes, stuff like that. Everywhere I walk in CCW, upstairs in the office, in the back of the warehouse, is inspiring to me.

Mary T. Bevlock was born on July 30th, 1968 in Bryn Mawr, PA. She began making artwork at the Center for Creative Works in 2010, when she started making portraits of her favorite celebrities. Bevlock is passionate about advancing herself as an artist, and her work continues to grow in innovative ways as she seeks to develop skills with new materials.

Working from her collection of images of soap opera stars and television actors of the 60’s and 70’s, Bevlock’s goal-oriented approach to art-making is systematized and focused. She begins the day by checking in with her friends and colleagues at the studio diligently preparing her workspace. When she works, Bevlock brings a combination of meticulous rigor and unbound improvisation to her practice. Her passion for color inspires an unexpected and innovative palette, and her detail-oriented mark-making articulates bold, sensitive lines.

Bevlock likes basketball, weaving and bowling. Her favorite television shows are CHIPS, General Hospital, Matlock, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, and Little House on the Prairie. Mary is also inspired by music, which she listens to on her walkman while drawing and painting, particularly Captain and Tennile, The Carpenters, Kenny Rogers, the Monkees, John Denver, all of Barry Manilow, and Andy Gibb.
